Xmas gift for her

Xmas gift for her During a week when so many Americans have experienced some combination of joy, rage, and frustration in seeking the perfect holiday gifts for their children, it seems appropriate to pause and ask: Where did the practice of giving Christmas gifts to children come from?

There does not appear to be an easy answer. Xmas gift for her do not primarily serve as rewards: Commentators on the political left and right have in recent years asked parents to abandon the “naughty and nice” paradigm that suggests such presents are prizes for good behavior, and indeed historical evidence suggests that proper conduct has not been a widespread prerequisite for young Americans to receive
Christmas gifts.
Nor do presents seem to have a clear connection to Christian faith. Some American families have established a “three-gift” Christmas in an effort to link the practice to the generosity of the three wise men in the story of Jesus’s birth, but again no broad historical precedent exists for this link. In fact, religious leaders have long been more likely to decry the commercialization of Christmas as detracting from the true spirit of the holiday than to celebrate the delivery of purchased goods to middle-class or wealthy children. (Donating gifts to poor children is a different matter, of course, but that practice became common in the United States only after gift-giving at home became a well-established ritual.)

Xmas holiday

Xmas holiday In the United States, the holiday season "is generally considered to begin with the day after Thanksgiving and end after New Year's Day". According to Axelrad, the season in the United States encompasses at least Christmas and New Year's Day, and also includes Saint Nicholas Day. The U.S. Fire Administration[23] defines the "winter holiday season" as the period from December 1 to January 7. According to Chen et al.,[24] in China, the Christmas and holiday season "is generally considered to begin with the winter solstice and end after the Lantern Festival". In some stores and shopping malls, Christmas merchandise is advertised beginning after Halloween or even earlier in late October, alongside Halloween items. In the UK and Ireland, Christmas food generally appears on supermarket shelves as early as September or even August, while the Christmas shopping season itself starts from mid-November, when the high street Christmas lights are switched on.[25][26]

Secular icons and symbols, such as Santa ClausRudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman, are on display in addition to Christian displays of the nativity. Public holiday celebrations and observances similarly range from midnight mass to Christmas tree lighting ceremonies, church servicesdecorationstraditions, festivals, outdoor marketsfeastssocial gatherings and the singing of carols.

The precise definition of feasts and festival days that are encompassed by the Christmas and holiday season has become controversial in the United States over recent decades. While in other countries the only Xmas holiday included in the "season" are Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, St. Stephen's Day/Boxing Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day and Epiphany, in recent times, this term in the U.S. began to expand to include YuleHanukkahKwanzaaThanksgivingBlack Friday and Cyber Monday.[27] The expansion of the holiday season in the U.S. to encompass Thanksgiving is believed to have begun in the 1920s, when in major department stores Macy's and Gimbels launched competing Thanksgiving Day parades to promote Christmas sales.[28] Due to the phenomenon of Christmas creep and the informal inclusion of Thanksgiving, the Christmas and holiday season has begun to extend earlier into the year, overlapping Veterans/Remembrance/Armistice Day, Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night.

Merry Xmas

merry xmas Before its release, "Merry Xmas Everybody" received about half a million advance orders. 350,000 copies were bought upon its release.[citation needed] It became the third song by Slade to enter the UK Singles Chart at number one in its first eligible week on 15 December 1973, the sixth number one of their career,[8][17] and the fastest selling single in the UK. It also marked the first time 2 consecutive number ones had entered at that position, previous number one "I Love You Love Me Love" by Gary Glitter having also entered at number one. Polydor, Slade's record label, were forced to use their French pressing plant to keep up with the demand, and the song eventually went on to sell over one million copies,[citation needed] becoming the Christmas number one of 1973, beating another Christmas-themed song, "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" by Wizzard.[18] "Merry Xmas Everybody" remained number one until mid-January, and stayed in the Top 50 for nine weeks.[19] That it remained in the charts after Christmas caused confusion for Holder, who wondered why people continued to buy it.[9]

The single's original B-side was "Don't Blame Me", which later appeared as an album track on their 1974 album Old New Borrowed and Blue.[20] In a 1979 fan club interview, Lea said: ""Don't Blame Me" was a time-filler, I think that it was created as that. When it was used as a b-side, we didn't even know it was being used, it was chosen by the offices. We were in America recording the Christmas single, there was a rush to choose what to put on the back of it, and that track happened to be used."[21]

In 1985, the song was given its first 12" vinyl release. An extended remix version of the song was created by Lea and Peter Hammond for the release.[22] In 1989, it received its first release as a CD single, which sold 15,000 copies in the UK.[23] That same year, the song was sampled by the novelty pop music act Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers for their song "Let's Party". "Let's Party" would reach No. 1 in the UK,[24] and was also a success across Europe.[25

christmas s*******t

christmas s*******t There are many options available when choosing a Christmas tree s*******t. Some are made of flashy metallics, while others are quite simple and are constructed for the purpose of not detracting from the trimmed tree. Many attach the s*******t to itself with Velcro, but some prefer to have the s*******t open.

In fact, most advise that the opening part of the s*******t be accessible so one can regularly water the tree. Further, for safety purposes, the circumference of the s*******t should not exceed the widest circumference portions of the tree. This can help keep the s*******t from tripping people up who regularly walk past the tree, and may be unaccustomed to the extra cloth on the floor.

It’s also advisable to keep the Christmas tree s*******t well out of the reach of young children. Alternately one can make sure the tree is wired to the ceiling or the wall. A vigorous pull of the tree s*******t could bring the tree down and cause injury or destruction of ornaments and lighting.

If one doesn’t wish to go to the trouble of purchasing a christmas s*******t tree s*******t, one can use several options for getting the same results. One can purchase a piece of fabric in whatever pleasing colors one finds and use this as a tree s*******t. As well, many use the time-honored tradition of wrapping a small sheet or blanket around the tree. A decorative shawl or throw can also make for a nice tree s*******t.

merry christmas and happy new year One of the best ways to celebrate festivities is by making Merry Christmas and Happy New Year cards and sending them to family and friends. The end of the year always brings joy to the world. While the weather gets colder in some parts of the world, people will instead get happier. Share Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year wish with everyone you know to spread happiness.

Christmas and New Year are the most joyous celebrations of the year. It’s a great moment to spend time with family and relatives, donating to those who are in need, and of course, starting a new year with resolutions. Even simply sending Merry Christmas and Happy New Year greetings through text or social media DMs can make the receiver happy.

Holidays are a great moment to rejoice. While baking extra cookies, finding the right gift, transporting your family to holiday parties, or even making Merry Christmas Happy New Year cards can be stressful, those who celebrate the holidays are much happier compared to those who don’t.

According to Fred Bryant, a social psychologist, when people take the time to appreciate all the good things in life, they will develop resilience, which may help manage daily issues. His study and analysis from Victoria University discovered that savoring some little things in life, like annual holidays, may improve family members.

Now, you know that celebrating festivities are good for your whole well-being, how do you plan to celebrate your holidays? Perhaps sending all the people you love holiday cards is a good idea. If you don’t know how to start off, follow the simple steps below.

  • Start with greetings – Always start your card with a greeting, like “Happy Holidays” or other warm greetings.
  • Write a short saying – Choose a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year message that fits you and your recipients. This is to ensure each card you make is remarkable for the receivers.
  • Write a personal card message – If you have a close relationship with the card recipients, consider using nicknames, adding inside jokes, and memories you shared together with when crafting your holiday cards.
  • Be sure it’s appropriate – If you’re writing a card for employees, clients, or customers, make sure the message is relevant but also cheerful.
  • Use holiday quotes – Consider including some quotes about Christmas and New Year to lift up the season.
  • End the massage with warm closing – You may simply use “we wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year” or other closings you like as closing.

christmas stockings

Christmas stockings is thought to have started in the 3rd century when Saint Nicholas roamed Turkey spreading kindness and doing good deeds. The most widely accepted origin of the practice involves good old Saint Nick, a widowed man, and his three daughters. According to the tale, the father was having a hard time providing for the girls after the passing of his wife. Though the three daughters were beautiful, their impoverished state would likely keep them from ever marrying, which deeply worried their father.

When Saint Nick heard about the girls’ plight, he knew he had to help, but the father was known for never accepting help outright, so he had to be crafty. One night, after the girls had washed their stockings and left them hanging by the fire to dry, Saint Nick snuck into the house through their chimney and left gold coins in each of their stockings before climbing back through the chimney. When the girls awoke, they were elated to see what had been left to them. They would be able to find husbands, after all. Though the origins of this story are largely unknown, it is the most widely referenced tale of how the modern Christmas stocking came to be.

Typically, stockings are filled with trinkets, treats, and even fresh fruit – especially oranges. While this tradition probably stems from times where fresh fruit was difficult to get and was, therefore, a treat, but some claim that the oranges found in modern stockings also have ties to the distraught widower and his three beautiful daughters. Some versions of the story say that Saint Nick gifted each girl three gold balls rather than coins in their stockings. Gold balls are pretty hard to come by, nowadays, so they have been replaced by their refreshing citrusy counterparts!

Throughout the years, Christmas stockings have taken many different shapes. In years past, actual socks and stockings were hung by the fire on Christmas night. From trouser socks to silk stockings, vintage mantles have likely seen it all. Some families still hang large socks, while others have opted for sock-shaped pouches that are often red with white trim to mimic Santa’s suit. There are more decorative options, as well. Crafty families may even try their hand at making or decorating their own Christmas stockings!

Of course, different regions of the world have varying beliefs regarding the origin of stockings. One such story spawned from the Norse. According to legend, the Norse god Odin would visit his people’s homes with his flying horse, Sleipnir. The children would fill their boots with carrots, straw, and sugar cubes for Odin’s flying equine companion, and to show his gratitude, Odin would replace the treats with stocking stuffers like small candies. Families in Holland and Hungary still follow this tradition and fill their shoes with goodies for Sleipnir!

a christmas story

a christmas story Initially overlooked as a sleeper film,[42] A Christmas Story was released a week before Thanksgiving 1983 to moderate success, earning about $2 million in its first weekend.[43] Film critic Roger Ebert initially gave the film three stars out of four,[44] but later gave the film four stars and added the film to his "Great Movies" list and suggested the film had only modest success because holiday-themed films were not popular at the time.[45] Vincent Canby's mostly negative The New York Times review complained that "the movie's big comic pieces tend only to be exceedingly busy. Though Mr Billingsley, Mr Gavin [sic], Miss Dillon and the actress who plays Ralphie's school teacher (Tedde Moore) are all very able, they are less funny than actors in a television situation comedy".[35]

In Canada, the film would go on to win two categories in the 5th Genie Awards, for Director Bob Clark and Best Original Screenplay for the work of Leigh Brown, Bob Clark and Jean Shepherd.[46]

By Christmas 1983, the film was no longer playing at most venues but remained in about a hundred theatres until January 1984.[17] Gross earnings were just over $19.2 million.[43] In the years since, due to television airings and home video release, A Christmas Story has become widely popular and is now an annual Christmas special. The film was produced and released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). The rights to the film were acquired by Turner Entertainment Co. after Ted Turner's purchase of MGM's pre-1986 film library. Subsequently, Time Warner purchased Turner Entertainment in 1996, and currently holds rights to the film as Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD).

Over the years, the film's critical reputation has grown considerably and it is regarded by some as one of the best films of 1983.[47] Based on 59 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an overall approval rating from critics of 90%, with an average score of 8.60/10. The site's consensus reads: "Both warmly nostalgic and darkly humorous, A Christmas Story deserves its status as a holiday perennial".[48] On Metacritic, the film has a score of 77 out of 100, based on 16 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[49] In his movie guide, Leonard Maltin awarded the film a four-star rating, calling the film "delightful" and "truly funny for kids and grown-ups alike" with "wonderful period flavor".[50]

On December 24, 2007, AOL ranked the film their #1 Christmas film of all time.[51] IGN ranked the film the top holiday-themed film of all time.[52] In 2012, a Marist Poll named the film the favorite holiday film in the US.[53] In 2019, a poll commissioned by Tubitv and conducted by Onepoll also ranked the film Best Holiday Movie Ever.[54] A Christmas Story received a nomination for Best Digital – Comedy, and won Best Digital – Animation/Family at the 2023 Golden Trailer Awards

christmas gift for the poor

۱۶ بازديد

christmas gift There is also a widespread European tradition of giving gifts to the poor on St Stephen’s Day, 26 December. In the UK this is called Boxing Day, possibly after the alms box placed in the parish church to collect donations for the poor, or the box of gifts given to servants by their employers each year.

Indeed, the tradition of giving gifts to servants on the 26 December appears to go back a long way. The accounts of Battle Abbey from the 13th and early 16th-century record spending each year on Christmas presents for the monastery’s servants. Mid-15th century accounts for Fountains Abbey also record expenditure of Christmas gifts for servants.

In the 1850s Queen Victoria writes in her diary of walking to the kennels at Windsor Castle with the children to give Christmas Boxes to the ‘little McDonalds’. The servants at Audley End in Es******* in the 1860s had Boxing Day off and were given a dinner of beef, mutton and the usual Christmas fare in the servants’ hall along with their families.

In the mid-20th century Sylvia Grant-Dalton of Brodsworth Hall, South Yorkshire continued the tradition of seasonal philanthropy, throwing regular Christmas parties for children from the local Brodsworth School, where they each got a present from the Christmas tree and shared a delicious
spread of party food.
